Indian railways is one of the biggest and most popular transportation service in India. Last week I wrote about how you can book Indian railway tickets via mobile on your phones. Today, I am going to share another useful service that will allow you to track Indian Trains live online as well as via mobile.
Last year Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi launched a pilot project called SIMRAN developed by IIT-Kanpur that provided real time tracking information for 36 selected Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. The real time train tracking was accessible via simran.in and via SMS on 09415139139.
Since September 2012, the SIMRAN project is shut down and Indian Railways has opened the Real Train Information System (RTIS) to public for accurate train tracking for all the trains.
The new website www.trainenquiry.com can be accessed by a desktops or mobile browsers to track the trains in India in real time. You can follow the instructions below on how to track the trains on the website
Alternatively, you can also get the train status information by sending an SMS "SPOT train_number" to 139.
