This opens up whole new doors for Indian travellers. Expedia is a major player in travel industry just like Google/Yahoo are in Search industry. This will create a stiff competition for local Indian players like Cleartrip, Yatra.com, travelguru.com etc. If you look at the traffic stats for these sites, Yatra.com is outperforming Cleartrip and Travelguru.
Expedia India still hasn't started airline booking though. Expedia India currently only provides hotel bookings and attraction bookings such as Grand Palace Tour in Bangkok, Quad Biking in Dubai etc. It will not take longer for Expedia to start airline booking though.
I personally have used Expedia for my couple of trips in USA and was really satisfied with the kind of service they provide to its customers. Right from booking your flights/hotels to the end of your journey, it provides detailed information. You also get SMS alert about your flight timings as well (this was for USA though).
So now watch out Yatra.com, Expedia is here for the battle.
