I remeber when MakeMyTrip.com started back in 2005, they were really aggresive and happy about their service. And to be frank, it was unique in India as no body started something like that before in India. That time, Expedia.com was pretty famous and well reputed travel portal in western countries. So the Deep Kalra, founder and chief executive officer, MakeMyTrip was claiming that "We are Expedia for India". Well not any more.

In a recent article on LiveMint, Sharat Dhall, managing director of Expedia India mentioned that Expedia is soon launching its services in India. I checked the domain name expedia.co.in. It is registered by Expedia Inc with and was actually registered back in 2005. The last update date is like June of this year. So I am sure there is something going on from Expedia for its India launch.

Travelocity which is also a big international travel portal, started its operations in India back in March. So now two major international players are jumping into Indian market. This would be a tough competition for local travel portals like Yatra.com, Travelguru.com, EzeeGo1.com, Cleartrip.com etc etc. I will try to list all the possible travel portal India has in my future article. So keep looking out for that.

Travel industry is already over crowded in India and more and more players are adding up in the list. According to my point of view, its good to have competition as its always benificial for end users and customers. Finally Indian customers will feel their freedom and power.
