If you are buying your railway tickets online, here is a good news for you. Indian Railways has reduced the e-ticket service charges by Rs. 5 from July 1.
Previously, minimum charge of e-tickets for sleeper and second class was Rs 15 per ticket which has been now reduced to Rs. 10 per ticket. For air-conditioned classes, the charges have been dropped to Rs. 20 from Rs. 25 per ticket.
IRCTC is authorised to expand e-ticketing facility to outside agencies and has appointed over 8000 agents to book e-tickets. These agents include RTSAs, member of IATA and TAAI, petrol pumps of BP Copr Ltd, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioners of State Governments, e-seva centers of Andhra Pradesh Government and e-pos through ICICI. Recently Indian Railways opened its first reservation centres in Nepal. Inaugurating the reservation office in the capital, Indian ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee said, "Now we don't have to depend on unreliable agents for ticket reservation." Yahoo News
Indian Railways as statistics reveal revenues of over Rs 700 crore through e-ticket sales in 2006-07 accounting for 30 per cent of India's online retail which stands at Rs 2,300 crore, according to Internet and Mobile Association of India.
