Recently after the Air India and Indian Airlines merger, their subsidiaries will merge as well. Air India Express, a subsidiary of Air India and Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Indian Airlines will merge and there will be Air India Expresss consisting of Alliance Air fleet and new ordered aircrafts.

Air India Express was established in May 2004 and started operations on April 29, 2005 with a flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Abu Dhabi.

TOI reports that the airline is all set to take wings from October 1 with two brand new Boeing 737-800s and the existing fleet of Alliance Air.

The airline will offer competetive ticket prices compared to low cost carriers and would offer meals on board. Food packets would be provided at the entrance of the aircraft.

Speaking of the immediate future, AI CMD V Thulasidas said: "Alliance Air will continue to do what they are doing in the name of AI Express but its fare structure would be changed as it is not an LCC. Later as Alliance planes are phased out, we will use planes of the merged airline that would be free by rationalisation of routes that will lead to release of capacity. We are in the process of getting more aircraft."

The airline is hiring staff members right now and also inviting business partners for their future operations.
