Ahmedabad BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) is a bus based high quality, high capacity rapid transit system. In a BRT system, vehicles travel in exclusive lanes, thus avoiding congestion. There is provision of segregated right-of-way infrastructure, rapid and frequent bus operations, easy boarding and alighting facilities for the passengers and excellence in marketing and customer service.
The Ahmedabad BRTS was officially named as “Janmarg” by Shri Narendra Modi which means “people's way” - a road that would carry the citizens of Ahmedabad in safety, comfort and at high speeds.
I just noticed today that Ahmedabad BRTS gets its own website and the site is called AhmedabadBRTS.org. The website has all the information about Ahmedabad BRTS, its project timeline and many other sections are still under construction.
TOI reports that Ahmedabad BRTS is all set to launch in few weeks now. Amdavadis can travel on the Bus Rapid Transport System at the economy prices. Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) ticket fare committee has proposed that there should be no difference in AMTS and BRTS fares.
In the first stretch between Chandranagar and RTO circle, AJL plans to introduce 22 buses with a possibility of five air conditioned buses, which will be introduced later. AJL has been doing dry run of their GPS system with 14 buses.
The commuters will be given a smart card', which can be recharged anywhere between Rs 50 to Rs 1,000. Also AJL wants to offer two types of smart cards one with a photo and other without. The photo-identity smart cards would be for commuters like students, senior citizens, disabled and other categories to prevent duplication or substitute use of such passes. The smart cards would be issued at special city civic centres in different zones of the city.
