Traveling in Bus is a big headache. You dont know the bus routes, bus information, schedules. And on top of that you dont even know where to call to get these information. Most of the Indian transportation information spread around via word of mouth. If I want to go to Shirdi from mumbai, I will ask my friends/relatives "Do you know how to get to Shirdi?". So I will get some information from them saying "You go to this place, take XYZ bus and the amount is X Rs." Such a hassle.

But now If you are planning to take a bus for your trip, you might want to logon to this website called "IndianTransit.com". The site looks in its "beta" phase from the look but is really very useful. The idea is very thoughtful. You select the starting city (State) and destination city (State). When you hit search, the site will display list of Private Bus operators information as well as Public Transportation information. You can choose which option you want to go with. The information includes the time schedule, bus fare and provider contact information.

Site also lists "Popular bus routes". For example Ahmedabad Mumbai buses, Ahmedabad Ambaji buses etc.

You can search travel agents, find out Airport connections, Interstate transit, Intercity transit information and much more.

Site is also good for private bus operators as they can register for free (initial promition) and list their services (upto 10) on the site. They also provide different memberships like Silver, Gold, Platinum which differes in the number of services that one operator can list on their website.

Site is getting popular in google as well. If you type "Ahmedabad Mumbai buses" in google, you will see the site coming up on the front page. So I would now do the same thing for all my bus routes information.
