I am sure this story will give relief to nearly half a million students and their parents who are now in the process of applying for Junior Colleges in Maharashtra. Maharashtra State Government, Office of Deputy Director of Education has just announced the launch of a new website which will allow potential college candidates to apply online for their junior college admission.
Students who are seeking admission to first year junior college in Maharashtra can register at {ln:nw:http://www.mumbaiapplication.com 'MumbaiApplication.com} and select the college they want to apply for. After selecting the college, they can pay the application fees online (or via mobile using {ln:nw:http://www.zipcash.in/zipcash_partners.html 'ZipCash}).
MumbaiApplication.com has not been officially launched yet though. You can still register to the site and play around with it to get yourself familiar with the site. Once MumbaiApplication.com will go live, your previous data will be lost and you will have to register again.
According to {ln:nw:http://www.tech2.com/india/news/internet/for-mumbai-college-admissions-go-online/38611/0 'Tech2}, initially, the online admission facility has been made available to all the 500-plus colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai and students can apply from anywhere. The manual admission process will still be available to those who doen't have access to internet and don't know how to use computers.
The site is developed using Drupal Content Management System. I think Department of Education is also playing around with the system to make sure they understand the software before they officially launch the site.
So if you are planning to apply for Junior College in Mumbai/Maharashtra, check out {ln:nw:http://www.mumbaiapplication.com 'MumbaiApplication.com} to apply online for your admission.
