Google opened its Google + Social Network globally yesterday. It felt that there was no need to invite people officially with an announcement to join them. For the past three months, it had been on field trial. During this time, Google + had learnt a great deal by listening. Google says that they are nowhere near done with the improvements that they have made so far. They feel that they are now ready to move on from field trial level to the beta level. They have opened the network for anyone to visit and join the project.

Google had launched an invitation-only test format of Google + on 28^th June 2011. During this interim period, improvements included allowing members to participate in video-chat `Hangouts’ using camera-enabled smartphones or tablet computers or broadcast video presentations to groups of watchers using `Hangouts on Air’. In its `Hangout’ feature, up to nine people can link up and chat with a user on video. Today, Black Eyed Peas front man, Will.i.am, will host the first `Hangout on Air’ program.

Google has also integrated its internet search expertise into the social network by adding a query box. Google + is still in its infancy level but Google is confident and excited to bring the real-life sharing richness to software. Analysts are estimating that upward of twenty five million users have joined Google + since it began its test run three months back. It is to be seen whether Google + can maintain the rapid progression of its initial months.
