BollyWood Blockbuster Movie Rental for NRI - iTalkies.com

There is a good news for NRIs living in USA. There is a new website which allows you to rent movie online. This site provides Indian blockbuster movies. I know its not a new concept and there are probably few more sites out there who provides dvd movie downloads as well as online movie rental for bollywood movies.

The news ite is called iTalkies.com. The site is running on the same business model as NetFlix or HindiFlix. You rent movie online, they deliver it to your home, you watch it, send it back and order another blockbuster movie.

iTalkies, started in 2004, has so far been serving the Seattle area, where it has one percent market share compared to Netflix's five percent. The company recently expanded operations to the tri-state area, opening a shipping office in New Jersey.

The company has over 5,000 movies available for rent in their inventory which includes Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Marathi and English blockbuster movies. Now a days you don't have to go for blockbuster movie store to rent a movie. You can just rent DVD movie online or download movie and watch it at your ease at your home. (webIndia123)

What I don't understand is their monthly charges structure. They have three different subscription.

$9.99/month -- 1 DVD at a time
$14.99/Month -- 2 DVD at a time
$17.99/month -- 3 DVD at at time

I think that is little higher as you can rent dvds in Indian stores for about $1. So considering that, you can watch about 10 movies in a month. But if you consider their subscription model, you can watch probably about 2-4 movies. (4 movies if you are really really punchual about watching it on time and sending it back on time)

To have good business in Tri state, I think they will have to reduce their subscription fees.

Just came across this post while browsing the internet. Thought I would post a comment here since I work for iTalkies and know their model.

With the iTalkies model you can rent movies for as little as 20 cents a day or in the 1 DVD at a time plan, for 30 cents a day. Its actually quite innovative. So for as little as 60 cents (3 days) you can watch a movie. That is acutally cheaper than most DVD rental stores + the prints are guaranteed originals.

There are no hidden charges or fixed monthly fees. The monthly charges are automatically prorated based on your usage of the serviec. The plans guarantee that you wont be charged more than a certain amount. Its an ideal mechanism for budget concious people.
