New website for entertainment/online television has gone live today. The site describes itself as "a digitally integrated media platform" which is meant to serve the entertainment needs of Indian national across the world. So you can say its designed for Non Residential Indians. NRI TV.
The site will broadcast news and policy reports from the government of India. The main focus would be on what PIO (People Of India) would like to know. So what else the site will have? sports, lifestyle, fashion, bollywood shows etc. etc. etc.
The website has "Watch Movies" and "Radio Live". The radio didn't work for me. For movies, they have currently one movie under "Action" genre and that is "Kshatriya". Let me tell you that the quality of the movie is really really good and that too a full length movie.
Looks like Mr. Munish Gupta, chairman and CEO, PioTV.com has high hopes for this site. “We have a bit of YouTube, with surfers uploading their own content on the site, and we have a bit of MySpace, with our PIO Directory, where one can find the ‘who’s who’ of the PIO community abroad. This directory is our attempt to be a MySpace of PIOs,” said Gupta. (via AgencyFAQ)
The content of this website is available to watch for free but if you want to download it, it would cost you between 50 cents and $5.
What surprised me is that why Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs V. Ravi has to do anything with this launch ? Mr. V. Ravi unveiled this website in New Delhi. Why ? What is so different about this website than other entertainment websites like idesitv.com or other hundreds of sites which provides the similar "Entertainment" to NRIs for so many years.
