Facebook is trying a new ‘subscribe’ option for a select group of users. This new option enables an user to subscribe to the activities of another user and receive notifications whenever there is any activity in the subscribed profile.

Facebook said in a statement that they are trying this new feature with a small percentage of users to ascertain its effect.

However, some industry experts have criticized this new feature as it can be misused for cyber stalking. It is unclear whether Facebook members will be able to subscribe to other members they are not friends with, much like Twitter where one can follow other someone else without being followed.

Technology website Mashable commented that this should be opt in feature with the users consent as the subscribe option can be annoying if misused by shrewd frenemies, vindictive exes or nosy bosses. At this stage, it is not clear whether or when the new feature will be rolled out for use to all the users on Facebook.
