For a long time Google products like Gmail , Blogger, Orkut, etc.. has presented Indic transliteration. And there are Bookmarklets which can be used on other non-Google websites to enter text in Indian languages .The only drawback of this tool is that it can be used only on a live internet connection for transliteration work in real-time.
To overcome the above drawback, Google has newly launched a tool called Google Transilteration IME, which can be installed on any XP/Vista or Windows 7 computer. With this tool we can write text in most Indian languages , which includes Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, Bengali, Nepali, Marathi, Punjabi, Urdu and also Arabic languages.
Google Transliteration tool also has its own memory to store the spelling of words which we use often to our future reference. For instance, if a particular word has multiple versions, then the tool will automatically recollects the spelling of the word which was selected before and displays it as a first choice on the next time, when the same combination of Roman characters are used.
To get access to Google keyboard , you must go to Control Panel, then select Regional and Language options then select the keyboard and languages tab and change Keyboard to “Google Input” as shown in the screenshot.
After changing the input keyboard to Google, open any Windows applications and type a word as it sounds in your language using English alphabets. The onscreen virtual keyboard allows you to enter complex words that cannot be typed using the Roman Keyboard.
You can switch between English and other Indic languages using the keyboard shortcut F12.
