Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a laminated card, by the Income Tax Department. From Jan 2005, government requires PAN on return of income, all correspondence with any income tax authority. It's mandatory to have PAN for all the financial transactions.

Government has made easier for people to apply for a PAN card online. You can now download the PAN request form, fill it out, send it to the officials or you can fill out an online form to apply for a PAN card. Whether you are a public user or Mutual Funds user, you require a PAN card. 

Here are the sites where you can find out more about PAN card.

You can apply for PAN card online (Form 49A) at utitls.co.in. The site is damn slow, so be prepared to wait for few minutes to load. 

You can check the status of your PAN card online at NSDL or at myUTITSL.co.in.

    can u please tell me what is mean by NSDL AND UTITSL i dont understand what this terms mean can u please tell its full form and what is it mean and what is the differences and how are they useful
