Day by day sites are getting more personalized with your personal groups, your personal wedding site, your personal home pages etc. Now you can even personalize your browser toolbar and distribute your website's browser toolbar to your visitors or you community to stay on top of latest updates from your website/community.

 

Instant Messengers on the other hand are still not personalized to that level. We are used to Yahoo!, GTalk, MSN, AOL and ICQ messengers. We can personalize those messengers according to our needs but its not like having your own messenger. I mean it would be nice to have "Information Madness Messenger", wouldnt it?

i-Msgr has addressed this issue. i-Msgr is the site which lets you create your own instant messenger, an Instant Messenger for your own brand for FREE. Now you don't need to know programming or hire an expert to create your company instant messenger. This messenger support files transfer as well as smileys. So mostly the basics are covered. You can create your own messenger and ask your visitors/consumers/community to download this messenger so that you can communicate with them.

Free messenger by displays ads on your page but if you go for paid version, those ads will be gone. I can see that i-Msgr is probably targeting small companies that can use this i-Msgr for their intranet chat

I tried to create an account with i-Msgr while I was writing this article. I must say the registration was really easy. There are couple of things that I didn't like about i-Msgr though.

First of all you have to download (one more in the list of existing Y!Messenger, GTalk, MSN etc.) i-Msgr application on your computer. There is no web interface for your messenger. It would be nice if i-Msgr can come up with some sort of web-messenger version of i-Msgr where no one has to install any client on their machines.

The downloaded application didn't work on my computer and gave me an error 'Not a valid win32 application". So to get it to work, you have to download and install Dependency Setup. There is no mention about what is this Dependency Setup. This was the reason I didn't move forward with the installation of this messenger.

Other than that, the concept is really cool and can pickup pretty well if executed in the right direction with some enhancements & additional features.
