There is a double blow involved here as Samsung is throwing its pledge out of the window on the Android alliance that it will keep devices that are released within eighteen months to be updated with the latest version of the operating system.
Samsung is now coming out with the story that its hardware is not powerful enough to support the Ice Cream Sandwich for Android. Samsung has just made Google look stupid for claiming that Android devices will start getting on a unified updated cycle similar to what iPhone users enjoy now.
Samsung is only guaranteeing the Ice Cream Sandwich for its Galaxy SII phones. The Nexus S will also get the Ice Cream Sandwich update but only because it uses a pure version of Android without the TouchWiz skin.
People are most likely going to wait for months before Samsung decides that it is time for an update. Meanwhile, Apple and Microsoft will continue to benefit when it comes to delivering the best software to all their devices.
