Some analysts had predicted few weeks back that Google would back out of the deal. Google is trying to grow the market share of its Chrome browser. Mozilla is relying heavily on the income generated by these kinds of partnerships.
Under this multi-year agreement, Google search will continue to be the default search provider for millions of Firefox users all over the world. The Mozilla Foundation earned over 121 million dollars from agreements with Google and Microsoft. Google makes up about 85% of that amount. The previous deal ended in November. While this is going on, Google Chrome has already overtaken Firefox to become the world’s second most widely used browser behind Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
Google has made this progress after many expansive advertising campaigns across the world. The launch of Chrome and its subsequent growth has pushed Firefox out of the limelight. Yet, Google remains financially responsible for Mozilla’s survival. People are not surprised by Google’s decision to renew its deal with Mozilla because Google needs all the advertising on the internet that it can get. Google wants the shelf space.
Mozilla’s latest presentation, Firefox 9, was launched day before yesterday. It is supposedly 30% faster than the previous versions.
