It is going to be a federal crime if you violate the terms of service of any website. As per this interpretation, breaching the terms of service of websites by using a fake name say on Facebook or twitter, lying about your age and weight on a dating site and being under age to use content from Google sites for term papers could make you an outlaw.

The Department of Justice is going to look at this matter with seriousness now. The computer Fraud and Abuse act has been amended to prosecute hackers and other serious cyber crimes. The expansion of this law has become necessary for the enforcement to prosecute people for misuse of government databases, invasion of privacy and identity theft.

Take Google for example and its terms of service that stipulate that if you are not of legal age to form a binding contract, you cannot use any of its services or sites like Google plus. A seventeen year old cannot open an account and he or she cannot plagiarize content from such sites for their research work or term papers as they will be violating the terms of service of Google. As per the interpretation of the statute, he or she will be deemed a criminal.
