I must say, shopping habits and the way of shopping in India is changing drastically. Because of the huge competition, now consumers get wide array of choices and options for their purchase. Whether you buy it from a roadside stall or you buy it from big stores like Pantaloon or BigBazaar, you have your options. But the problem here is, how to decide where to go? Similarly, if you want to buy an LCD TV, they have Samsung, Sony, LG and what not. So how can you decide which one is best for you? Exactly, the comparison between products.
Well atleast now we have two websites (that I know of) where you can do price comparison as well as product comparison.
CompareIndia.com - The site gives you a front end where you can compare the products. Basically, the company is a research organization and gives the end user a free information service. Currently, the site features 37 product categories: Audio systems, televisions, washing machines, microwave ovens, refrigerators, fax machines, photocopiers, and printers, amongst others. The site was recently acquired by TV18 group and now is under network 18 group.
TolMol.com - The site was initially named UlTop.com which is now renamed to TolMol.com. It is a price comparison site. It is a startup by Avake Technology, a california based company which was founded by Ramna Sharma and Anuj Kanish. WatBlog has an interview with Anuj Kanish published on their website, if you are interested in that you can read it here. The company also runs Gladoo.com, career and job search solution.
In their own words
TolMol enables shoppers to compare and find the best deal on product and service offerings from thousands of online and local sellers. In single TolMol search, shoppers can find information on thousands of products and services from popular shopping websites and local sellers across major cities in India. Shoppers can compare product features and prices side by side. Unbiased product and seller reviews and ratings further help shoppers make an informed buying decision.
So far Indian market has only two major players for price comparison. There might be more but are not exclusively focused on price comparison. I think ebay India does have price comparison too.
So next time when you buy something, you might want to compare what you are buying. :-)
