Sony ran a small press meet in San Francisco, US to signal the launch of their forthcoming Android Honeycomb tablets. You may remember that Sony had made similar announcement back in April but at that time the release was targeted fro Japan only.  During the press event held today the press couldn’t lay their hands on the new 9.4 inch S1 or 5.5 inch Dual model S2 but the representatives talked about the launch of these two models in US market.

There are some surprises if you think the S1 and S2 will be released by Sony as you expected; Wi-Fi model and the Mobile Broadband models are not the common features of both these models. According to Ina Fried, reporter of Allthingsd Sony has plans to launch dual screen 9.4 inch S2 incorporating 4G HSPA+ tablet but S2 will feature WiFi only models and both S1 and S2 will not have these common features.  AT & T wireless made announcement that they are exclusively offering HSPA + to Sony S2 on the network of AT & T.

The way these two models are configured and offered is somewhat weird. It is expected that both models should be available with broadband and without it. It is unrealistic to expect that a user would like to be tied to a carrier network because he has bought a tablet. It will be sensible if Sony corrects this anomaly before the models are released and let the customers choose.
