Google is ready to launch phones pay for purchases using ‘near-field communications’ (NFC) technology. Report says, the new technology is under the developing stages which will allow consumers to sign their Android phones in front of a small reader at the checkout counter to continue with payments.
The planned payment system would allow Google to offer retailers more data about their customers and help them target advertisements and discount offers to mobile device users near their stores, the sources told the WSJ.
At first the current holders of Citigroup-issued debit and credit cards would be only allowed to pay for purchases by activating a mobile payment application developed for one current model and many coming models of Android phones. Google is also not to going to charge any extra transaction fees under payment, report reveals.
According to media reports, Google has taken this move after NFC-enabled Nexus S handset launched. This new feature would give the competition to Orange’s UK plans to use Barclaycard’s technology for mobile phone ‘contactless’ payment. There is also rumored in Apple circle to consider new ‘NFC’ chips in its future iPhone.
Of course, this project would supposedly enable Google to provide retailers with data about customers and help them to target advertising towards well oriented customers. This should be profitable to Google as well as users because there is no such extra charge or surcharge. Today Credit Card is the most reliable way of money transaction; it will surely raise the users spectrum of Google & customer bonding. In between Google's ad network will too work here and hopefully customers may also get discounts & all.
