VLC is the most popular free open source program for playing media files in the world. It supports a multitude of video files including DVD, audio CD, VCD and streaming formats like avi, mp4, mkv, flv and so on. VLC is a very powerful multimedia player yet it is very user-friendly. VLC Player has recently been released for Apple’s Smartphone. It is one of the 2010’s best released applications.

It is currently being modified to work in all Android based cell phones. It is set to be released soon.

The major thorn in this modification was that android operating system is java based while smart phones from Apple are window based. But with the launch of Native Development kit by Google early this month, the task got a lot easier. It is now scheduled to be released as soon as possible. It is also probable that VLC player will completely revolutionize playing videos on android based smart phones. The VLC player can play almost every video format and has very easy to use interface. It is to be seen what format are being supported by android based smart phones. But it can be sure that it will be a very pleasurable experience for the user

 

The major flaw of this application is the minimum system requirements as it requires Android 2.3 or Gingerbread based platform. But there are many handsets which still have not received the Android 2.2 Frovo update. So it would take quite some time before VLC player for Android beta can be used in Android based smart phones.
