Actually, the first operating system is Windows which was integrated too into Android devices, but it can’t be used just by replacing Windows OS. You have to use a Boot Loader known as HaRET. This boot loader reboots your mobile into Android OS.
But to get started you will need to download some additional files, several files actually. It works just like this: first of all you will need the Android files for your type of phone so you can boot in the ROM. After that, you will use HaRET application to load the Android OS. The phone will work fine, but the old CDMA sets might not be able to convert into Android OS.
While you are choosing the files for your type of phone, pay attention at these files:
- zImage (System kernel)
- rootfs.img (root image file)
- Initrd.gz (Initialization file to load Android)
- system.sqsh (pack of Android System files)
- default.txt (System Information & Settings)
- HaRET.exe (Boot Loader Application)
You will need to put these files in a single directory after you download them. After that, you will need to connect the phone with the PC, but before doing that it’s recommended to format the mobile and remove any Memory Stick in order to reduce the chances of confliction. After you make the connection, transfer the files into the root folder of the phone.
This is done. Next, you will need to change the settings in order to be compatible with the Android OS. You will have to open default.txt and make there the changes. After you did that, disconnect the device from your PC and open HaRET.exe in order to reboot your Windows phone into Android through the files you’ve transferred before.
And that’s it! Now you can use your Windows mobile as an Android device. You can read the detailed instruction at MakeUseOf
Enjoy!
