PlayOn is very good media server, infact now I can use it with my Samsung LED 3D TV too.But that's not as exciting as finding out that now I can play PS3 stuff directly on my smartphone.
PlayOn just released the version 3.0.3 software and that now supports mobile devices (currently iPhone and iPod). But another cool thing about this new version is that you can infact play PlayOn from within your mobile browser.
Knowing that Palm Pre's browser is very similar to iPhone/iPod, I thought of giving it a try. I installed the latest version of PlayOn, opened up my phone's browser and typed m.playon.tv, I was able to see my computer in the list. Once I clicked on my computer, it listed all the available channels.
The sad part is that, the excitement ended right there. I was not able further drill down under the network channels. So I thought of going to their support forum and found out that I am not the only one who tried this. There were users from Android, HTC Touch Pro, HTC EVO. They all had the same issue.
One good thing is that, one of the PlayOn staff member responded to our queries and mentioned that support for more devices are coming very shortly. So... Hang on, PlayOn is coming to webOS, Android and Nokia MeeGo..
Updates
Apparently, the webOS 2.1+ version of OS would be able to play PlayOn videos on Pre+. Also the recently launched TouchPad with webOS 3.0 should be able to play PlayOn on webOS. Make sure that you have the latest version of PlayOn software installed and your device and your computer running PlayOn are on the same network.
I have tried it and it works perfectly fine. Watched some Hulu on my TouchPad via PlayOn.
