The company which is based in Finland is still a leader in the market having 41% share, but there is a mounting pressure which puts under question its positions.
Today it has launched the N8 model in the Asia-pacific region in an attempt to rival its competitors. The N8 is the first Symbion based mobile phone which is available in India.
The phone will be available in India from September at a price of Rs.28,000. The N8 is seen by the industry as an attempt by Nokia to regain customers moving on to a host of phones from Taiwan HTC whose phones are Android based like Apple’s iPhone 4 and Blackberry.
The N8 has 8 GB of memory and high speed access to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and high quality video recording. According to Jo Harlow Nokia Senior Vice president the Nokia N8 is great for people who want to create content and to connect to their preferred networking sites.
The largest mobile phone maker in the world is also trying to attract developers to write content and make applications for its devices. The better content and improved software are the major factors for the increase of sales of IPhones and devices based on Android operating system.Nokia seems to be lagging behind taking into account these indicators
Nokia has launched these two models today. One of them is theX6.It has 8 GB of memory and is targeted to the seekers of entertainment featuring unlimited music downloads, social networking, chat and games.
The other phone is called Nokia X5 and has 2 GB memory which can be expanded to up to 32 GB. It offers also networking service and music. The both phones will be on sale from September. The price of the Nokia X6 will be 225 Euros while the price of the X5 will be 165 Euros without taxes and subsidy.
The company made an entry into the dual SIM handset segment very late following the launch of the C1 and C2 models which are priced between 30 and 45 Euros. Other producers of handsets in India have introduced dual SIM mobile phones where the two SIM cards can be used for a long time. Two low-cost low memory phones have also been introduced with prices ranging from 35 TO 39 Euros.
There are plenty of phones from various brands which are offered on the Indian Market like LG, Samsung, and Sonny Ericsson. Local companies like Videocon, Fly, Zen and many others are also entering the growing segment. This fierce competition will most probably bring down the prices of the phones.
