Jawahar Goel, who announced the launch said, that in a contrast to the countries such as US where DTH players offer high-definition service to viewers, in India few players offer the service. He said also that it took him and his organization some time before they introduced the service due to the restrictions of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry on the launch of new channels.
At the moment the Dish Tru HD has five channels –Zee TV HD, Zee Cinema HD, Discovery World HD, National geographic HD and ESPN HD. It is planned that in future Zee Studio and Zee Café will also be launched in high definition. Goel claimed that in the current financial year Dish TV is planning to introduce around 60000 set-top boxes as a part of the Dish tru service.
The price of one set-top box is Rs 5999, and the monthly subscription for the five high definition channels came up to Rs 150.Trying to attract viewers with high definition entertaining content, DishTv has launched a partnership with ESPN, which owned the exclusive rights for broadcasting the FIFA World Cup. The broadcasting of the FIFA World Cup is seen as the biggest attraction of the year on Dish Tru HD.
RC Venkateish dubbed the sport’s channel partnership with Dishtv as a part of the long-standing relationship, taking in account that ESPN Sports star has been part of the Dishtv’s DTN since 2004.He also commented that sports and sport content are heavy bandwidth led and that it is compatible with.
In order to promote its new offer; Dishtv will launch a TV commercial which will feature Shahrukh Khan as the brand ambassador.
