President of Dell’s Business Division, Steve Felice told the reporters that the company has plans to launch smartphones in India later this year. This move comes in as the arch rival HP entered the Indian market aggressively with Palm Inc.
The company expects steep increase in the smartphone growth in India once the 3G service starts in the country. Recently, the Indian Government auctioned off the 3G airwaves at sky high prices and everyone ranging from service providers to handset manufacturers want to have a headstart to win the 3G race in India.
India is a low cost market where the low ends phones flourish the market, the market also gives smartphone manufacturers enough room to find consumers for smartphones. Te country expects a cheap phone that not only works well but also looks pretty decent.
