Sony has come up with its new addition to its Bravia range of TVs, which turn off automatically when you fall asleep. The facial recognition technology which is mostly used in cameras has been employed in the Bravia Tv for thios purpose.

The Bravia WE5 also has a feature which allows it to turn off when there is no one in the room with the help of heat and motion sensors. It also got light sensor which control’s the output of the TV’s backlight based on the rooms lighting.

The company’s spokeswomen told the reporters that,” the new sensor technology will now be rolled out to other models in the Bravia 2010 range, delivering significant energy savings to those viewers guilty of leaving their TV on when it is not being watched”.

When you move to make a cup of tea you can hear the TV’s sound but it will not waste energy by showing the pictures. As soon as you enter the room the picture turns on automatically. The company claims that the latest micro- tubular HCFL backlight cuts the energy consumed by over 50% of its previous models. Sony aims to cut the energy consumption of its product over 30% by 2015. This is the initiative taken by the company to meet its high profile commitment of “Zero environmental footprint” by 2050 with the use of non-renewable materials.

The only detail which the company failed to reveal is the pricing of this TV.
