At Demo 2008, a new VoIP startup was showcased to compete with standard telephone company PBX services. You can get a Toktumi number and try it for free for incoming calls and for calls to other Toktumi users. If you want to dial calls to other telephones and you want a number in the area code of your choice or to transfer your current phone number, you'll have to pay.

It is just like MagicJack but cheaper than MagicJack and infact free for incoming calls. Just recently, Toktumi and Line2 released their "App" for iPhone and iPod touch gives your iPhone a second phone number complete with its own contacts list, voice mail, and so onToktumi imagines that you'll distribute the Line2 number to business contacts, and your regular iPhone number to friends and family. Your second line can be an 800 number, if you wish, or you can transfer an existing number.

The app offers Google Voice-ish features like call screening, Do Not Disturb hours and voice mail messages sent to you as e-mail. The Line2 app is a carbon copy, a visual clone, of the iPhone's own phone software. The dialing pad, your iPhone Contacts list, your recent calls list and visual voice mail all look just like the iPhone's.

The application was an instant HIT and is right now the top 3 most popular app in the App Store. But every fame comes with a cost. Toktumi and Line2 are currently under a Denial of Service (DNS) attack. This appears to be a coordinated effort.

Whatever is the case but for $1, Line2 "App" should be a must have application for your iPhone or iPod touches..
