The growth rate for BSNL in 2005-06 was 11.32% and Revenues were Rs. 40,177 crores (US $ 9.04 billion) in 2005-06. But according to Rediff news, the revenue coming from data services is only 5%. To boost thei data services revenue, BSNL is planning to give PC data card along with cellular connections to allure business travelling customers. The idea behind this is that the frequntly traveling customers can access internet and download data using this PC data card.
This Data Card or GSM modem is a wireless network card that fits into laptops and offers 153 kbps data transfer. The speed. GSM modem also requires SIM card which will be provided by BSNL. The cool thing about this GSM card is that besides offering data, one can use this card to make and receive calls using a hadsfree which can connect to the card. This card can be used in most of the popular notbook pcs, portalbles and PDAs.
BSNL is also planning to launch its data services for CDMA by using BSNL Internet Connect Card(ICC). This card will provide internet connectivity at 144kbps but will not work during roaming.
