The company calls Airnergy as a ‘Wi-Fi hotspot energy harvester”. The device has an antenna to receive 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal, this Wi-Fi signal is turned into DC power and then stored in the on-board battery using a converter. The device looks similar to a mobile phone , with a micro USB connector hanging off it.
The device charges automatically when it is placed in a Wi-Fi environment, all we need to do is simply connect it to our device to charge its battery.
The company claims that Airnergy can charge 70% of Blackberry battery in about 90 minutes. The strength of the Wi-Fi signal determines how quickly a device can be charged. With the help of this device we can charge our cell phone by placing it in a Wi-Fi hotspot.
RCA’s Airnergy charger is expected to hit the market in the third quarter of 2010, with a price tag of 40 USD.
