Amazon Kindle 2 (Overseas) In India - Things To Know

Kindle 2 aka Kindle Overseas is out and Amazon has started selling it outside USA. Amazon can even ship Kindle 2 in India.

Amazon Kindle is a great device for your reading needs. You can have books of your interests in your hand in under 60 seconds.

Amazon Kindle Overseas comes with Wi-Fi.. so there are no additional charges for wireless delivery in or outside India.

So here are some things to know before you order your Amazon Kindle 2 in India.

  • Amazon does ship Kindle 2 to India but it is subject to customs duties, import taxes and other fees levied by India. You will see these fees during the checkout at Amazon.com
  • Kindle ships with a U.S. power adapter and a micro-USB cable for charging your Kindle via a computer USB port. The U.S. power adapter supports voltages between 100V - 240V. So all you need to buy is a power adapter pin that supports Indian plugs.
  • You can transfer personal documents to your Kindle via USB for free at anytime.
  • Whatever books, newspaper and magazines that you buy from Amazon are priced and sold only in USD.
  • Blogs and the experimental web browser are currently not available for India. So you can not use Kindle 2's browser to access blogs and web pages in India.
  • If you buy Kindle 2 for India, it comes with 1 year limited warranty.

    If you're looking to buy the Kindle, you should try http://www.shopyourworld.com. The site has a merchant association with Amazon.com that allows you to shop on the Amazon site, get the pricing in INR (Full landing prices including shipping) and the product is shipped right to your doorstep. The shipping arrangement sometimes works out to be cheaper than Amazon itself:)

    As an Indian customer, Customs and local service are preventing me from going and getting kindle. By the way, PC world had the review of this Indian competitor to Kindle.

    The Kindle 2 is history now with the B&N Nook out. And the Kindle's price goes to about US $400 after shipping and import taxes are included.

    I'm just waiting till the Nook starts shipping to India, or someone from USA gets it for me. Don't buy the Kindle unless there is absolutely no way for you to get the Nook.

    I was pretty impressed by the initial Nook preview and the best thing about Nook is that you can borrow books while you are in Barnes and Nobles and read it right on the couch the way you read books in B&N.

    Kindle International Version does not have Wi Fi
    Amazon has obviously made a deal with some Indian carrier to provide the connection via GRPS/EDGE.

    Thanks for notifying usabout the stupid web browser thing. It just stopped be from buying one.
