Indian Travel industry is seeing some revolutionary changes lately. People now have a power to book their train tickets, flight tickets and bus tickets with few clicks on their mobile devices. SMS ticket booking and Voice search are now very common. Back in 2007 I covered New Travel Fare search engine - 90DI.com which provided an easy to use interface for airfare + trains fare search.
The site now has done some major changes into its user interface as well as functionality. The site has now added bus search to its existing travel search feature.
90Di also launched command line search functionality for trains, flights or buses from point a to point b. So if you want to go from Ahmedabad to Rajkot, you just type "Ahmedabad to Rajkot" and the site gives you list of available trains, buses, flights in a tabular format.
The new user interface is fantastic and really user friendly. The site has also added regional touch to it. Now you can see the site in Hindi and Kannada. Once you get the list of available options, you can filter it out further by time and destination etc.
I would still like to see one thing that's not there for any of such bus/train/flight search engines. You can not find any bus+train+flight routes if you want to go from major cities to a village or town. Say for e.g. I want to go from Ahmedabad to Dabhoi(a small town in Gujarat near Baroda..), I can not find any information. Currently you take a bus or train from Ahmedabad to Baroda and then another bus from Baroda to Dabhoi. 90Di has a potential to incorporate such feature and that would make 90DI a killing app for anyone's travel related search requirement.
There may be some initial hurdles to get these information I guess but once you have the comprehensive database, it would be easy to accomodate this feature.
What do you think? What do you do if you want to go from major cities to small towns? Where do you find information for those routes?
