Research in Motion Ltd. has launched its BlackBerry Torch 9860 in India a little ahead of the festive seasons that include Navratri, Dassera and Diwali. This is a time when the consumers are in the mood for buying. This phone is cheaper than Samsung’s Galaxy S II and Apple’s iPhone 4. It features a 3.7 inch screen. It has fewer pixels than the iPhone 4. It has 480x800 WVGA resolutions with 253 ppi.
It looks solid and has a good cell reception service. This factor is going to be vital in India in a dusty environment in cities where pollution can be risky for the delicately manufactured smartphones. Another problem in India is that low investment in the phone networks by profit busted telecom operators has resulted in poor cell service coverage. RIM has announced that sales in India are building up faster than the Indian smartphones market’s cumulative growth rate.
This introduction before the festive season should allow RIM to capitalize on high initial sales. This phone is RIM’s latest full touch offering. The last time that BlackBerry offered a full touch instrument was last year in the shape of Storm II.
