Ofcourse anything doesn't literally means anything. Anything here in this article means files, SMS, pictures etc. I was reading about this new Indian mobile startup that allows you to send any document (doc, xls, ppt, jpeg etc) from your PC to your GPRS enabled mobile phone. The company is Rarefind Engineering Innovations, founded by Ajay Rajasekhar.
The website called MocoDile was showcased in Proto II back in July 2007 in India. It certainly looks promising. It works based on a simple application. You download a small piece of software (which is available for free - so far) on your computer, this application installs plugin to your browser and a virtual printer on your machine.
You can download the application from Mocodile download page
There are four ways you can send your "anything" from your computer to any mobile in the world. Now when I said any mobile in the world, you are paying for the SMS charges. Yes its not free. Based on the country where you are sending this "anything", you pay some US cents.
So I was talking about four ways of sending things to any mobile.
1. Mocodile Printer - You can print any document to the mocodile printer (which would be configured once you install the mocodile software on your computer) which will prompt you to enter a mobile number where you want to send this file to. The receiver will get an SMS which will have this file attached.
2. Mobile Basket - From your mocodile software interface, you can drag files that you want to send to, enter a number and it will send an SMS. The receiver will get an SMS which will have the link to those files. Those files would be hosted somewhere on their server (I believe)
3. Mocodile SMS - The regular SMS from your computer.
4. Mocodile Browser Plug-in -- You will see a right click menu item in your browser, you can select text that you want to SMS, and mocodile application will send it. The receiver will get an SMS which will have the link to those files.
There are few limitations though, a mobile phone must have GPRS capabilities. I personally haven't tried this software but I will pretty soon.
But as we are talking about this "mobile" access, you might want to read about Access Your Computer From your Mobile Or Any Computer For Free
