Who would knew that there can be a search engine like Google.com that will replace our good old yahoo search. Google became our only source for information research. Then came Wikipedia which changed the way we share and retreive information. But still you have to work hard to find what you are looking for from Google and Wikipedia. You have to search through hundreds of pages to find the exact answer for the query "What is the population of India?"
Here comes a new startup that is actually using a scientific software Mathematica to bring you the answer for your question. Stephen Wolfram, a scientiest launched Mathematica, powerful computational software in 1988 that has become the gold standard in its field. Wolfram today launched his latest creation, called Wolfram Alpha.
It applies his work with Mathematica and NKS (A New Kind of Science) to Web search. All one needs to be able to do is to take questions people ask in natural language, and represent them in a precise form that fits into the computations one can do.
The site Wolfram Alpha is live and one can search for mathematical solutions like x^n sin(x) etc. You can search for probability, geometry, trigonometry, descret math, physics and what not.
The site is still in beta and often shows "page not found" error.. but the site itself can be a great resource for students and research people.
