Ducati May Find Home In India With Hero MotoCorp
Ever imagined driving a Ducati in India? I know its not a "Common" Man's reach but a common man's bike company, a company behind world's largest selling motorcycles & bicycles Hero MotoCorp is planning to buy Ducati.
You can see the shift of power from West to East now. Few years ago Tata bought Jaguar and now Hero MotoCorp is in talks to buy Ducati. How cool is that?
Ducati is up for sale, with a reported price tag of around a billion dollars. Hero has 3,000 dealerships across the world and it also needs a new non-Honda range of motorcycles just a few years from now.
Hero has a tie up with Honda Motor Corp but is in search for a company to make their own brand motorcycles. Hero currently has a cash reserve of US$1,000 million dollars.
Hero company said that it is in talks with bankers about buying Ducati Motor Holding SpA.
“Lots of people have been coming to us with Ducati: Not one banker but many bankers,” Mr Pawan Kant Munjal, Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp, said in an interview to Bloomberg. “We're talking to a lot of people. Not just Ducati, whoever comes to us, we talk to them,” he added.
Hero in December 2010 had decided to exit a 26-year partnership with Honda Motor Co. The company is looking to gain technology through partnerships and acquisitions after that licensing relationship ends in 2014.
So guess then many Indians would drive Ducati motorcycles in coming years if this acquisition goes through.
