He made the first T-Shirt with thirty rows of four LEDs each and then he hired a manufacturer to build one hundred and seventy five more of them. He attached them to an old shirt and was able to build a display with a 160x120 resolution which is exactly half of an iPod.
This set up has a chip that is similar to the one used in scaling down the images for security cameras and another chip which is similar to the one used in controlling big LED signs that are used for advertisements. Forbes was able to put together this wearable display by adding a small set of circuits that can convert the video output of an iPod to the smaller resolution.
A full wrap around display of the T-Shirt will be costing close to forty thousand dollars while a front-only will cost about twenty five thousand dollars. Order time is around four months.
