Aakash is known as the eye of Poor India as its pricing concerned. DataWind UK based company made this cheapest tablet especially for Indian market at the rate of just 3k INR ($35). It is also known as so-called the Govt. of India’s initiatives to promote Tablets among college students. While launch only, Aakash had received about 3 lakh bookings that forced DataWind to bind under agreement to produce more tablets as per market demands. To full fill these demands, DataWind came in the contract with manufacturers based at Cochin & Noida.
As per as news report in media, DataWind is planning to go ahead with the improved version of Aakash tablet in retail outlets by January end. The delay is reportedly due to up gradation and some unexpected problems in manufacturing segment. ~ Courtesy Mobile India
Aakash tablet runs on Google’ Android 2.2 operating system and looks as 7-inch resistive touchscreen with 800x480 resolution. The tablet has been configured with 256MB of RAM, a 32GB memory slot and two useful USB ports. Apart from these features it also supports formats like DOC, DOCX, PDF and PPTX etc. It comes with 12 months replacement warranty also. DataWind is currently working on other features also to make it more attractive & feasible also for market window. But due to pricing certain constraints there from govt. side also.
