Sprint Nextel Corporation is an American Telecommunications Company who has announced today that it is going to make available Wireless CapTel by Raketu which is an application on select Android phones that will increase the facility to accessibility in mobile communications for people who are hard of hearing.

This Wireless CapTel will allow users to peruse the conversations with real time word for word captions on their wireless phones. They can place a call very much in the same way that they would when using a conventional phone, which is by dialling the number directly on their handset. When the party that is receiving the call answers, these users can listen to what the other people are saying and also read captions at the same time on the phone’s display screen.

This application can be downloaded on specified Android 2.2 or higher systems from the Android market for free with a plan that is known as `Everything Data’. CapTel services are made for people who are hard of hearing. The captions that appear on the phone are almost simultaneous with spoken words. This has marked a good breakthrough by Sprint Nextel for the deaf community. The Company has recently achieved an industry first with the Sprint Relay ID Pack which is a bunch of applications and links that enables a wireless experience for those with hearing loss. The bundle includes voice mail transcripts with visual and vibrating alerts and readable captions that are available in a single download.
