Former Libyan leader, Muammar el Gaddafi, has been killed. He died of wounds suffered earlier today at dawn as rebel fighters hunted him out from his hometown, Sirte, after a bombing raid by NATO warplanes. He was captured and killed. His killing has shaken all despots in Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and Yemen. Gaddafi was wounded on his head and both his legs in the firing. He was trying to run in a convoy which was attacked by the aerial raid.

The capture of Sirte and Gaddafi’s death will give Libya a new life to begin a democratic system. Gaddafi was overthrown by the rebel forces on 23^rd August after a one man tyrannical rule for forty two years over the oil rich North African Libyan State. He was also wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of ordering civilian killings.

Al Jazeera Television showed Colonel Gaddafi’s corpse as victorious and jubilant fighters in Sirte fired automatic weapons in the air, bringing to an end a violent end to his four decade old reign as a despot in Africa. Car horns blared n Tripoli as news of his death spread and residents came out into the streets to celebrate.

Libyan fighters have hounded out the last remaining loyal forces to Gaddafi from Sirte, ending the fierce fighting that was going on for weeks in the Mediterranean region. The world leaders have welcomed this news. This ends the rule of a dangerous and cruel dictator.
