PayPal Access is a service that is being announced by eBay that will allow people to use their PayPal accounts on other websites without the necessity to register an account or use a credit card. The service is likely to start from today at eBay’s Commerce Developers’ Conference in San Francisco. This service feature will basically knock off the need to register an account at other retail websites. It will considerably reduce the steps required to make a purchase and it will also lower the risk of an eCommerce website being hacked for credit card details.

The different thing about PayPal Access is that it offers everything that consumers and the web merchants will require to create an account and have ease of transactions right from shipping to payment details. It will help retailers to simplify login and account creation and that will help conversion and loyalty as far as web merchants’ websites are concerned.

PayPal has turned to Gigya and Janrain as partners to implement this product. Gigya will be providing the PayPal Access to its close to five hundred enterprise clients through its Social Login product while Janrain will offer through its Social Check In platform.

 It is not going to be that easy as PayPal Access may face some strong hurdles. Its biggest challenge is going to come in the face of convincing retailers that they should implement the new system in addition or instead of a conventional user registration system. While PayPal Access will reduce the hassle towards a purchase, the retailers may not have that much access and control over those user accounts. This is an issue that many online retailers will have to consider hard even as PayPal wants to become the internet’s dominant payment solution.
