The COAI had appealed to TRAI few days back in a lobby to rethink its decision to limit the number of SMSes per SIM card to hundred per day. The COAI feels that this kind of regulation may create a potential challenge to the basic rights of an ordinary subscriber. The COAI Director feels that there are situations where SMSes are an important means of communication. A customer could exhaust his or her limit and may require more in an emergency. The safety of the subscriber, according to him, may be affected. This argument is thin and baseless.
You do not need one hundred short messages to keep your safety intact. The adolescents and the bulk SMS operators or rather irritators will thrive in line of COAI’s appeal which has, anyhow, been rejected. In the case of post-paid telephone numbers, the restriction is up to 3,000 SMSes per SIM per month.
