Dotcom Era May End Soon since ICANN looking to bring tremendous changes in domain names policy. Very soon you can see the websites addressed with domain name “.bank”, “.india”, “.shop”, etc. International organization who’s responsible for authorizing internet domain address system, is now preparing to open multiple domain names options with different suffixes including languages script. Today nearly 300 suffixes are available in market along with individual country domains like .in for India or pk as Pakistan.

Moving ahead with major updates in Internet domain naming policy ICANN may approve Hundreds or even thousands more suffixes. They would be categorized from industry to geography to ethnicity. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers will be meeting next week in Singapore to take expansion plan for domain names. If ICANN makes changes in the plan as expected, new domains could appear from late next year.

Experts believe this new system could bring innovative branding opportunities for online retail outlets and allow all sorts of niche communities to drive their businesses online. If proposal goes on approval table, then it could be a bigger step from ICANN since its creation in 1980. But again there will the problem regarding occupying domain names early. This may create confusion among consumers to navigate or browse properly on net.  Of Course problem will in the market domain for small dealers & startups.

Earlier to this ICANN has already approved two major expansions in domain naming system. In 2000, it approved seven new domains, including ".info" and ".biz." & recently in 2011 only it approved ".xxx" for pornography & adult sites. ICANN wants to open window as much as possible for new users to get streamlined operations. This could be revolutionary step in the virtual world, hard to encroach at early state. There is threat that organizations that operate new suffixes will start collecting registration fees from websites that want names. Then it may not easy for anyone to get domain name as per as choices. Again fees could go up to millions of dollars in a year if website name is popular enough what exactly happened in the past.
