Twitter, one of the most popular micro blogging sites can get your computer to be infected with worms. Recently a worm has been seen on Twitter. This worm sends the user to an unknown IP address on the pretense of downloading an antivirus. This antivirus apparently is a fake and can infect your computer.

The DIT or Department of Information Technology‘s cyber security branch has warned Twitter user about this worm and advice not to download anything posted on Twitter. The Cert-In replied "Exercise caution while clicking on any link in tweets inside the e-mail message, instant messages or web pages,"

 

Twitter is a very popular micro blogging and social networking site. It allows its members to read and send small messages which are also called tweets. The tweets can be a maximum of 140 characters and are displayed on the profile page of Tweeter’s user.

 

This worm spread through harmful links while abusing URL shortening site goo.gl. If a user decides to click on the link, the Browser directs them to a fake antivirus website after going through a multiple redirections.

 

After reaching the website the user is warned that his computer is filled with suspicious software and is suggested to remove them by downloading an antivirus named Security Shield.

 

Twitter’s Trust and Safety director, Mr Del Harvey said that they are removing all the suspicious links and resetting password on accounts that are compromised.
