In an interesting development after the reports of internal problems within WikiLeaks and the recent arrest of WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, former members of WikiLeaks are apparently launching a new project called Openleaks.

DN.se, the Swedish news site, reports that Openleaks will work basically on the same fundamentals of WikiLeaks providing whistleblowers a platform to share information to the public anonymously. However, the difference lies in the way they disseminate and publish the information.

Openleaks will be playing the role of a mediator between the two parties here rather than simply going ahead and publishing the information to the public like WikiLeaks did.

DN.se reports,

“All editorial control and responsibility rests with the publishing organization. We will, as far as possible, take the role of the messenger between the whistleblower and the organization the whistleblower is trying to cooperate with.”

“As a result of our intention not to publish any document directly and in our own name, we do not expect to experience the kind of political pressure which WikiLeaks is under at this time. In that aspect, it is quite interesting to see how little of politicians’ anger seems directed at the newspapers using WikiLeaks sources.”

Openleaks is expected to launch on Monday.
