Text messages are the most used mobile feature in India. Young generation is using text messages to keep in touch with their friends or Free SMS Text Update with about news, cricket releated stuff. According to IDCIndia, an average SMS user sends 6 messages in day, while the number of messages received is slightly higher, at 8 per day.

Considering India's mobile subscribers, we are probably sending millions of text messages back and forth every day. All these text messages are in english. So if text messaging would be available in regional languages, it can hit the billion mark a day.

Geneva Messaging Services, or GMS has patented VIVID technology that enables any phone with Java MIDP 2.0 to receive multi-lingual short messages.GMS can help individual subscribers compose and send messages in their preferred language. This is Available in 11 Indian Languages.

He said the project had been developed with the help of the Department of Science and Technology, the Natural Disaster Management Authority and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. The first implementation would be in the Krishna basin where nearly 900 villages could be affected by floods, he added. They would expand it to the coastal regions later, he added.
