A fire broke out in Carlton Towers, Bangalore on Tuesday evening at around 4:30 pm. The building is located on Bangalore's old airport road.

Reports say the fire was caused by a short circuit on the seventh floor.

A large number of people are stuck in the building. Eyewitnesses said that the rescuers were bringing down people using fire hoses down the sides

People broke open glass panes with bare hands and any other material they could lay hands on to let out the smoke. Dozens of office-goers were seen coughing as they were caught in the smoke.

Hundreds of people gathered on the busy street hindering the free movement of fire brigade vehicles and fire personnel. Police said a few people jumped out of the building and suffered minor injuries.

You dont need anybody to investigate to tell you there was total voilation of building norms and safety standards. The only way this can be stopped is if corporates take buildings for rent certified by their own or some indepenedant authority. Also to start with if some of them can vacate buildings which have voilated saftety norms and move to safer buildings which are assesed by them and not BBMP certified. This will send a signal to builder's not voilated of there is no incentive in voilatiing saftety norms. Hope the biggies in the corporate world start it then smaller guys will follow, This will bring the builder's to fall in line. We have all laws in the world for buildings to be built to safety standards which will never be implemented because of corruption. This is the only way the coroporates who take these buildings on rent can force the change. This is the right time when plenty of options are there. if you are in an unsafe building move out, this will teach a lesson to people who have voilated buldings norms so the new buildings can be forced to follow bylaws and safety standards. So the wipro's ,Tatas, Big bazar's tcs reliance you can force the change by following some social responsibilites do it now
