Nokia, on the other hand, told the reporters that rate cuts are normal in the business. It also said that the company cuts the price a few times every year.
The rate cut made Nokia’s 5230 to be its cheapest smartphone model for just USD 239 in Finland.
In the Q4 2009, the company’s volume of devices was above 125 million, which clearly showed a growth of 12 % year on year and 17 % sequentially. For the same period of time the overall volume was nearly 329 million.
Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO, Nokia said that “Their market share of smartphones has driven up by the successful launch of Qwerty models. Our performance in smartphones, combined with continuing success in the emerging markets, helped us increase sales in our devices and services unit, both quarter-on-quarter and year-on-year,"
Recently, Nokia has launched the free turn-by-turn navigation free Ovi maps on its smartphones, which clearly shows the company is in direct competition with the Internet Giant Google.
Nokia is leaving no stone unturned in the ‘mobile’ game.
