Guruji, an Indian search engine has just released its finance portal to provide comprehensive information including stock prices and fundamentals over 1000 listed Indian companies.

Guruji has grown from a simple Indian search engine to wide array of services for Indian internet surfers. I really respect Guruji.com for standing in front of global search giants like Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and giving stiff competition. Features of Guruji such as Movie Timing search, Music Search makes it very useful tool.

However, at times I feel like it is trying to mimic Google. Not that there is anything wrong with it but it feels like you are copying someone instead of coming up with your own ideas. For e.g. Guruji launched its Custom Search Engine feature that you can include into your website/blog just like you do with Google Custom Search.

Now Guruji launched Finance Portal which gives you a look and feel of Google Finance.The only thing is that Guruji could have come up with their own design and template. I don't have anything personal against Guruji and wrote what I felt the moment I saw finance.guruji.com.

From the functionality perspective, I really liked Guruji Finance. I really liked the simplicity and accessibilty. I have to give it to Guruji compared to MoneyControl. MoneyControl looks too crowded at times with its animated advertisements and all.

Few features that I liked about Guruji Finance
-- Interactive Stock Price Map
-- Suggest as you type

Though their advertisement doesn't match with the content of the site. I saw bollywood advertisement when I was looking for Reliance Natural Resources Ltd.

    Whenever I use international services like Google and Yahoo! Some where I feel I'm not satisfied with that. Many times it is pointing to the content that is not relevant to me. Though they have customized more now for each geographical area, Still I don't feel Google as mine. Still it is a foreign to me. But Guruji is not like that. May be they are imitating the features and services from Google but they are at least concentrating on Indian market.

    For any music related search I always go to Guruji.com.
    If I specifically need Indian content then my best bet is guruji Not Google India or Yahoo India.

    I havent really seen people using guruji as such. Though the features uve mentioned look quite good, probably people are too used to google that any new search engine might not really impress them unless it is radically different. If search engines imitate google services, it is bound to attract comparisions with a giant. You are right.

    @Altaf,
    I know that competing Google is way beyond imagination but at least Guruji is trying. You never know they might bought out to other giant company. May be that is Guruji's exit strategy.
